RV Park Reviews

Meteor Crater RV Park

It has been a little while since I posted a review.  Our list of RV Parks is growing, so I thought I would start getting some reviews up on them.

This review is going to take us to Arizona, where we stayed at the

Meteor Crater RV Park

Location

Meteor Crater RV Park is located just off of I-40, about halfway between Flagstaff and Winslow, Arizona (a little closer to Winslow than Flagstaff).  Coming from either direction, just take exit 233 for Meteor Crater Rd.  Follow the signs, and it is only about half a mile down the road.  Very easy to get to.

The close proximity to Flagstaff makes it convenient for having a place to night over and leave early.  If you are like us and like to time getting through cities early in the morning before the traffic hits, this is a good location.  Likewise, if you end up going through Flagstaff at evening rush hour (like we ended up doing – highly do not recommend), Meteor Crater RV park is close enough to pull in and de-stress once you are through the city.

Sites

There are about 71 RV sites.  Of those, about half are supposed to be full hook-up sites with both 30 and 50 amp available.  The remainder are electric and water (all 50 amp).  I say “supposed” because during our stay, the full hook up sites didn’t actually have sewer hook up (they were working on it though).  There is a dump station in the back of the park that is free to use.

All of the sites are pull through sites.

Each site does come with a picnic table, no grill or firepit (you must have your own, and I believe only propane is allowed).

There are trees that separate the sites.

Sites are big enough to pull rig through and park your vehicle.  We were able to park both our tow vehicle as well as our Jeep in our site.

Sites are gravel but level.

Noise

Even though it is an easy drive to the interstate, and you can see the interstate from the park, you do not hear the interstate.  This park is very quiet both during the day, and at night.

Customer Service

We were very happy with the customer service for this park.  Booking our reservation online was easy, and they called us back just to confirm.

You check in at their gift shop, and the staff member who checked us in was very polite and thorough.

Amenities

Amenities at this park include a gift shop and mini mart.  Here you can find Meteor Crater and Arizona souvenirs, magnets, stickers, shirts and knick knacks.  They offer a small snack and food section.

They offer free coffee in their sitting lounge / recreation room throughout the day.  Here, you can sit and relax, read or watch tv.

Adjacent to the sitting room, there is a laundry room.  They were actually installing new machines while we were there.

If you are a pet owner, there is a pet walk around the perimeter of the park.  While there are some very nice grassy areas, the dogs are not allowed on them.  Pet walks are gravel only.

If your dog prefers to run off leash to do their business or exercise, there are two well maintained, and fairly large, dog park areas.  These are also gravel, but they are kept very clean.

There is a dump site.  This was appreciated, as their full hook up sites did not have sewer available during our stay.  I will say, the location of the dump site is a little awkward for getting a large rig into, but is totally doable.

Gated!  This RV park is gated.  It has 1 entrance and 2 exits.  All gated.

There are bathrooms and showers available, however, we did not use them.

They do provide for long term stays.

Gas station on site.

Things to do and see

Aside from being located not far from Flagstaff, where there are plenty of things to do, see and eat out, it is also located close to two main attractions!

It is just a short drive to Meteor Crater.  This is the site of a meteor impact nearly 50,000 years ago.  It is totally worth a visit if you are staying at the RV park!  To read about our visit, click here.

It is also a short drive to everyone’s favorite “corner” – Winslow, Arizona!  No trip to Winslow is complete without getting your picture “standing on the corner”!  Check out the shops and various places to eat while you are here.

Cons

I do not have a lot of cons to list for Meteor Crater RV park (which is good, right?!).  I suppose the only cons would be that the full hook up sites were not actually full hook up while we were there.

The lack of grass available to the dogs would also be a con for me, though not a deal breaker given they provide a nice dog run area.

Would we come back again?

We enjoyed our stay at Meteor Crater RV Park, and would definitely stay here again if we are passing through the area.

Do we recommend this park?

Yes, we would recommend staying here for an overnight or short stay to visit the area.

Overall thoughts

Overall, we enjoyed staying here.  The remoteness of the park, yet close to attractions was appreciated.  This park is quiet, and offers plenty of space in their sites.  At night, there are beautiful sunsets and you cannot beat the stargazing!

My rating for Meteor Crater RV park is 3 Scouts

1 Scout– Would not recommend.  Will not be back.

2 Scouts– Will stay elsewhere if we are able, if not, we would consider it.

3 Scouts– Would stay here again if it is on our route.

4 Scouts– Will definitely be back and would recommend.
