    Kayaking On Lake Mead- Nevada

A lot of people come to Las Vegas thinking the only place to dip their toes in the water, is poolside at their hotel.  Just roughly 30 minutes from the Las Vegas Strip though, is Lake Mead. Named after Dr. Elwood Mead – builder of the Hoover Dam, Lake Mead is America’s largest man-made reservoir.  You can access it both from the Arizona side and the Nevada side.  It has over 550 miles of shoreline, and a depth of over 500 feet at its deepest. The Lake Mead National Recreation Area is comprised of Lake Mead, Lake Mojave and the Colorado River.  Lake Mead is divided into several bodies of…

    Healthy Lemon Bar FAIL

When life gives you lemons… It is probably best to NOT try to turn your favorite Lemon Bar recipe into something healthy… I am here to tell you, that living in the time of a pandemic, does NOT make everyone a baker.  I mean, I was baking long before quarantine, and I like to think that I am actually not that bad at it.  I have even made a few of my own recipes 🙂  But, every time I scroll through my news feed or through You Tube videos, I see all of these people posting about how being stuck at home has turned them into an overnight baking sensation. …

Hiking In Red Rock Canyon, Nevada

When you think of Las Vegas, Nevada, what do you picture in your mind?  Like most people, I had always pictured casinos, bright lights and lots of people and traffic. Not so much, anymore.  I am learning that there is so much more to the Vegas area!  This is my second time in Las Vegas – in my whole life.  While it is not considered Las Vegas proper where we are, downtown Vegas is only a short drive from here.  The bright city lights, visible at night. On my first visit here, we actually got an Uber and ventured into downtown Vegas one night.  Unlike most people, I wasn’t…

    RV-ing In A Time Of Covid-19

With the Coronavirus pandemic wreaking havoc across the globe, it is raising a lot of questions and concerns for everyone.  For people who RV, it is no different. As of this week, there are about 30+ states that have issued orders to the entire state,  to “stay home”.  Most businesses are closed now, with the exception of those that we need to survive, schools are closed, jobs are closed.  Social distancing is now a household term – one that hopefully people are abiding by.  For most people, all of this means that they literally stay home – they are able to go out to the grocery store to get provisions, or…

An Invisible Thread – A Book Review

Book 1 of 12 (starting over for 2020) An Invisible Thread by Laura Schroff and Alex Tresniowski “An invisible thread connects those who are destined to meet, regardless of time, place and circumstance. The thread may stretch or tangle, but it will never break.”                    -Chinese Proverb This book made me happy and sad, all at the same time.  It is the true story of a woman and an eleven year old boy, who meet by chance, and whose lives are forever changed as a result of one random act of kindness. Laura is a well established Sales Executive living in New…

    Visiting Calico Ghost Town

The Mojave Desert, in southeast California, is famous for a few reasons – it has the hottest air and surface temperature ever recorded on earth, and it also has the lowest elevation in the U.S.  It is extremely dry and dusty here.  There is an endless view of desert floor, with very little shade.  At a quick glance, it seems very desolate.  But, hang around for a little bit, and it starts to grow on you. You begin to notice the beautiful sunrise early in the morning. The Joshua Trees that break up the landscape. The cacti and Creosote Bushes that somehow manage to grow in one of the driest…

    My Favorite Michigan Eats

As our time here in Michigan comes to an end (for now), I wanted to get at least one more post in.  It seems like the time here has gone so quickly!  The holiday season took up a little bit of that time – preparing for Thanksgiving, and then Christmas, as well as heading back West for the month of December (and part of January).  Since returning from the holiday visits, our time here has been spent getting ready to get back on the road for the next adventure!  This has left little, to no more, time for sightseeing in this beautiful state.  There is so much I still want…

    (Not) Grain Free Waffles

I can’t believe we are already a couple of weeks into the New Year!  Hopefully, everyone is off to a great start!  This year, I decided to set several “goals” for myself, instead of the dreaded resolutions, which I only end up breaking anyway.  One of my goals, is to get back on track with all of my healthy eating.  Normally, I eat pretty healthy, but it seems like at Christmastime, healthy eating takes a backseat to Christmas cookies and Lattes!  With all of that behind us now, it is time to get back on track! I thought it would be fun to cook my way through a cookbook. Last year, for…
