    Looking Back Through 2020

I think everyone can agree that 2020 was not a typical year, and most are ready for it to end.  We have all had to make adjustments and learn to be more aware and cautious.  While some areas were harder hit than others, no area was left untouched by the virus.  Travelling full time in an RV was not without its risks, and I feel like it gave us a really good perspective on the effect this virus has had throughout the country.  As the year went on, it got increasingly harder to get out and do things (and my blogging slowed dramatically), but, despite all of the challenges that…

Fresh From Miller Farms – Clinton, Maryland

I am not sure where this year has gone! ?‍♀️  It is already November.  Halloween came and went this year (as did the whole month of September and October) and I haven’t gotten a post up.  I have a few things to post about that I gathered over the course of those two months, I just have not had the opportunity to post them.  Now that I do, I thought I would start with Miller Farm, since it is a recent visit, and Fall is one of my favorite times of the year to visit a Farmer’s Market or Farm stand. Farmer markets are the best for getting fresh, local…

    Homemade Choke Cherry Jam

Prunus virginiana, Latin for “plum of Virginia”, is better known as, the Choke Cherry!  This tart little berry, with the pit in the center, is considered to be one of the superfruits like blueberries and the acai berry.  They are rich in antioxidants, high in vitamin C, and while bitter if you eat them straight off the tree, they are wonderful and tasty to cook with. They grow on trees and shrubs that are usually found alongside roads, near rivers and streams.  August and September are the best times to pick Choke Cherries, even though they will sometimes appear to be ripe as early as July…wait until at least August,…

Paddling The Clark Fork River – Montana

“Each mile on a river will take you farther from home  than a hundred miles on a road.” – Bob Marshall   As I made my way into Montana this past week, the Clark Fork River followed me, twisting and winding its way right alongside the interstate as I drove.  There is something about the water, whether it is the crashing waves of the ocean, the silence of a large lake, or the power of a mighty river, that I am drawn to.  As I watched the river follow me, I thought about how much fun it would be to just pull over, unload the kayak and just paddle my…

    Nature Walks and Kayaking

“There’s a great big hunk  of world out there with no fence around it”                                                                                                                -Lady and the Tramp   In this post, I am actually going to combine several outings.  They are just a couple of nature walks and a little kayaking, but even though they were smaller outings, they were fun adventures that I…

    Historical Cheyenne, Wyoming

Ask anyone today what they think of when they think about Cheyenne, Wyoming.  Most will probably say “Frontier Days”, or, “rodeos”. It is, after all, home to the Daddy of ’em All as far as rodeos go.  I have been to both, and it is, hands down, the best rodeo I have ever been to! Cheyenne, to this day, has the reputation of a wild west town.  While that is definitely a large part of the history of Cheyenne, there was also a time when Cheyenne was home to some really wealthy people and run by the rich.  Though short lived, a lot happened during this time, and many buildings were constructed. …

    Happy 4th Birthday Scout!

You’re off to great places! Today is your day! Your mountain is waiting, So…get on your way! -Dr. Seuss   Four years ago today, Scout came in to my world!  Since then, she has made me smile every day.  Her travels have taken her all over the country, from coast to coast.  She has played in forests, swam in rivers, run on beaches and hiked on mountains.  She has been a best friend and co pilot.  Scroll through her pictures to see a year in the life of Scout, as she went from 3 years old to 4 years old today!                  …

Hiking Frenchman Mountain – Las Vegas, NV

This was actually a hike that we took in mid May – back when the temperatures were not in the triple digits as they are now ?.  Even for mid May, it was a little too warm if you were to get a late start.  We arrived at the trail head at around 10 in the morning, and by the end of the hike, it was pretty hot out.  If we ever hike it again (or do ANY hike in this area, for that matter), early Spring and Fall are probably the best time of year to hit the trails here.  That said, this was a fantastic hike! Frenchman Mountain…

    The Burrowing Owl Of Nevada

The last time I was in Nevada, was the first time I ever came across one of these cute little owls!  Since then, I have found myself searching for them everywhere, whenever I am here. I had almost given up on seeing one on this visit, when, about 2 weeks ago, we were out walking.  Out of the corner of my eye, I saw some slight movement near a culvert.  I stopped to look, and there it was, my second ever, Burrowing Owl! I stopped to get a picture (or 2 or 3), and it was at this moment, that I realized this little guy wasn’t alone! Across the…

    Sittin’ Pretty

After a very long time with lockdown restrictions and Covid19 closures, Scout is happy to announce her first visit back to a groomer since…December of 2019! That is 6 months of growing out her crazy, aussome hair! Even with brushing, it is impossible to tame and control her hair after awhile… So, with the recent re-opening of businesses in the area, she was able to get a much needed groom! this is the shortest her hair has ever been groomed before… But, with temperatures hovering near 105+, she is feeling pretty content. And the fact that she looks like a puppy all over again, is something to bark about! ❤️?❤️?❤️?
