The Burrowing Owl Of Nevada
The last time I was in Nevada, was the first time I ever came across one of these cute little owls! Since then, I have found myself searching for them everywhere, whenever I am here. I had almost given up on seeing one on this visit, when, about 2 weeks ago, we were out walking. Out of the corner of my eye, I saw some slight movement near a culvert. I stopped to look, and there it was, my second ever, Burrowing Owl! I stopped to get a picture (or 2 or 3), and it was at this moment, that I realized this little guy wasn’t alone! Across the…

Hiking In Red Rock Canyon, Nevada
When you think of Las Vegas, Nevada, what do you picture in your mind? Like most people, I had always pictured casinos, bright lights and lots of people and traffic. Not so much, anymore. I am learning that there is so much more to the Vegas area! This is my second time in Las Vegas – in my whole life. While it is not considered Las Vegas proper where we are, downtown Vegas is only a short drive from here. The bright city lights, visible at night. On my first visit here, we actually got an Uber and ventured into downtown Vegas one night. Unlike most people, I wasn’t…

Visiting Calico Ghost Town
The Mojave Desert, in southeast California, is famous for a few reasons – it has the hottest air and surface temperature ever recorded on earth, and it also has the lowest elevation in the U.S. It is extremely dry and dusty here. There is an endless view of desert floor, with very little shade. At a quick glance, it seems very desolate. But, hang around for a little bit, and it starts to grow on you. You begin to notice the beautiful sunrise early in the morning. The Joshua Trees that break up the landscape. The cacti and Creosote Bushes that somehow manage to grow in one of the driest…

My Favorite Michigan Eats
As our time here in Michigan comes to an end (for now), I wanted to get at least one more post in. It seems like the time here has gone so quickly! The holiday season took up a little bit of that time – preparing for Thanksgiving, and then Christmas, as well as heading back West for the month of December (and part of January). Since returning from the holiday visits, our time here has been spent getting ready to get back on the road for the next adventure! This has left little, to no more, time for sightseeing in this beautiful state. There is so much I still want…

Holiday Season Is Here In St. Claire, Michigan!
It’s official! The holiday season has begun, here in St. Claire, Michigan! If you were here in downtown St. Claire last night, you couldn’t help but feel festive! All around, the shops, streets and boardwalk, were decorated and lit up in celebration of the beginning of the holiday season. Christmas music streamed from the speakers along the river, while people sang along to “Santa Clause Is Coming To Town” and “Jingle Bells”, among other songs. Fires were lit in the fire pits in the City Square, as people stood around them, hot drinks in hand, trying to ward off the frosty chill of the air. Parking lots were packed,…

A Fall Day In Lexington, Michigan
With Halloween over, and our first snow flurries last night, I feel like I am quickly running out of time to get some Fall pics up! Michigan is absolutely beautiful in the Fall, and it was a perfect day to just get out and go for a drive. Our drive took us to the little town (it is actually a village) of Lexington, located on the shore of Lake Huron, just north of where the lake channels into the St. Clair River. It wasn’t a destination we had intentionally set out for, it is just where we ended up. In fact, prior to ending up there, I had never heard…

Apple Season At Blake’s Orchard In Armada, Michigan
Blake’s Orchard Temperatures are dropping and leaves are turning here in Michigan. Fall is in full swing, and what better time to visit an orchard, than during apple season! With so many orchards in the area, it was hard to pick which one we wanted to visit. After talking to a few locals, we settled on Blake’s Orchard in nearby Armada. Blake’s Orchard and Cider Mill is family owned and has been around since 1946. They are also one of the orchards that are actually open year round. One of the first things that caught my eye when we got there, was just how cute they had everything decorated for…

Welcome to Michigan!
You know you are in Michigan when you ask someone where they are from, and they hold up their hand to show you. We are currently in the thumb! I will be honest – before getting here, I was a little apprehensive. I had never been to Michigan before, and the only thought that really ever came to mind when I would try to picture what it would be like here, was that it would just be like Detroit. Not that I mean anything against Detroit, I don’t…I just pictured city and a lot of urban sprawl I guess. The truth is, I could not have been more wrong! Michigan…
