Watermelon Salad
Sadly, I think summer is on its way out ?. But that doesn’t mean it is gone – yet! There are still some pretty good looking “summer” fruits available in the grocery stores! A large part of my grocery shopping is spent in the produce section of a store. Today, as I looked around trying to figure out what I was wanting to make with supper tonight, I saw a nice little stack of watermelon that looked pretty good. At first I thought watermelon sounded pretty good for a dessert, but, then I thought, it might also make a pretty good side dish as well 🙂 Rather than just cut…

Friday The 13th Cocktail
Are you superstitious? Maybe you are just a little-stitious. No matter which one you are, all you need is this tasty little brain bleed in a shot glass to chase away any bad luck that may be lurking around :). Easy to make, and fun to drink – you just have to get past the “chunks of brain matter” as you drink it! Just limit yourself, too many of these and that bad luck may find its way back come morning…. The Bleeding Brain 2 parts Peach Schnapps 1 part Irish Cream Splash of Grenadine Splash of Blue Curaçao (optional) Fill a shot glass 2/3 full with Peach Schnapps. Add…

Smoky Mountain Half Update
Yep, that was me ? Unfortunately, this race ended up being a no-go 🙁 I waited until the last minute to defer, thinking that maybe I could still make it work out and run. I am bummed that in the end, I had to withdraw. It is not the first time I have deferred a race in this series, it more than likely will not be the last time I defer. The good thing about the Vacation Race National Park Series, is that you can sign up early for a discount, and defer right up until the morning of the expo, and not be penalized. The week leading up to…

Training For A Full Marathon Part 3 – Updates
I cannot believe how quickly the Smoky Mountain Half is approaching! As I have said in my previous posts, I have been focusing my training on the Half Marathon first. Once I have completed the Smoky Mountain Half, I will be completely focused on my full marathon, coming up in January. I had over a month where I was not able to get out and run, just because of how busy things were. I managed to sneak in a workout here and there, but my running was really not happening for a little while. I hate when that happens (and without fail, it DOES happen), because it can be hard…

Zoo Boise In Downtown Boise, Idaho
I have to say, it has been a really busy month (add a week or two to that!). I have not been getting posts up as often as I want to, but that doesn’t mean that I won’t get them up! There will just be a few “adventure” posts that are a little behind! Life happens (and entire wheel assemblies fall off of trucks going down an interstate apparently), but I will get back on track here! “Bear” with me 🙂 , as we start with a trip to the Boise Zoo! The zoo has come a long way! Gone are the days of walking through a zoo and seeing all of…

Happy Birthday Scout!
“As soon as I saw you, I knew that an adventure was going to happen” – Winnie the Pooh Today is July 23rd, and someone is turning 3! ? I can’t believe it has already been 3 years since I watched the video of her being born! Follow along with Scout, from coast to coast, sunrise to sunset, as she takes you through her past year and turns 3 years old. July 2018 California July brought Scout to California. July also brought some of the hottest temperatures that Scout had ever seen! August 2018 California (Marysville, Roseville, Sacremento) Wildfires wreaked havoc on nearby towns in California. The smoke…

Lighthouse On Hunting Island, South Carolina
Another stamp in the Lighthouse Passport book, as well as another notch on the Bucket List! This time it was a day trip to Hunting Island in Beaufort County, South Carolina. I absolutely love lighthouses! Each one has its own unique story and place in history. Maybe it is because of my love for being near the water, that I am so attracted to these beautiful, nautical structures. There is just something about standing on the deck at the top of a lighthouse, and looking out over the water, that is so calming to me. We got lucky with our visit to Hunting Island Lighthouse. It turns out, that this…

Training For A Full Marathon Part 2 – Weeks 5-10
It’s official! As of this post, I am signed up for my FIRST FULL MARATHON!! I looked at so many marathons and their websites over the past few months, that I was starting to worry I would never be able to pick one. I was looking for certain aspects in the race, and finding one that fit everything I was looking for proved a little more difficult than I had expected. I was looking at time limits, location, amount of participants, time of year, and cost. A lot of the races I looked at (and briefly considered), had time limits that I was not positive I could meet. Others…

St. Augustine, Florida – A Day Trip To The Oldest City In The U.S.
Some of my favorite childhood memories are of my grandparents taking me on vacation with them. I can remember the excitement as we loaded their car up with suitcases, games, snacks and even school books. It was usually late Spring and school would not be out yet. We would have to bring our school books and work in them while we traveled, so that we did not fall behind in school. I am sure that missing a few weeks of school was part of the excitement! Every year we would go to Florida. Our final destination was always Miami Beach (except for the year that Disney World opened the…

Riding Standing Up – A Book Review
Book 5 of 12 Riding Standing Up By Sparrow Spaulding I should probably start the book review for May, with the statement that this post is only my opinion. I know everyone has differing opinions about the books they read, just as they do about movies that they watch. If you have read the content description of this book, or for any other reason, have decided you want to read it, by all means, read it. My intent is not to discourage anyone from reading anything, it is simply to let you know my thoughts on what I have read. That said, here is my review on my choice for my…
