An Invisible Thread – A Book Review
Book 1 of 12 (starting over for 2020) An Invisible Thread by Laura Schroff and Alex Tresniowski “An invisible thread connects those who are destined to meet, regardless of time, place and circumstance. The thread may stretch or tangle, but it will never break.” -Chinese Proverb This book made me happy and sad, all at the same time. It is the true story of a woman and an eleven year old boy, who meet by chance, and whose lives are forever changed as a result of one random act of kindness. Laura is a well established Sales Executive living in New…

Visiting Calico Ghost Town
The Mojave Desert, in southeast California, is famous for a few reasons – it has the hottest air and surface temperature ever recorded on earth, and it also has the lowest elevation in the U.S. It is extremely dry and dusty here. There is an endless view of desert floor, with very little shade. At a quick glance, it seems very desolate. But, hang around for a little bit, and it starts to grow on you. You begin to notice the beautiful sunrise early in the morning. The Joshua Trees that break up the landscape. The cacti and Creosote Bushes that somehow manage to grow in one of the driest…

My Favorite Michigan Eats
As our time here in Michigan comes to an end (for now), I wanted to get at least one more post in. It seems like the time here has gone so quickly! The holiday season took up a little bit of that time – preparing for Thanksgiving, and then Christmas, as well as heading back West for the month of December (and part of January). Since returning from the holiday visits, our time here has been spent getting ready to get back on the road for the next adventure! This has left little, to no more, time for sightseeing in this beautiful state. There is so much I still want…

(Not) Grain Free Waffles
I can’t believe we are already a couple of weeks into the New Year! Hopefully, everyone is off to a great start! This year, I decided to set several “goals” for myself, instead of the dreaded resolutions, which I only end up breaking anyway. One of my goals, is to get back on track with all of my healthy eating. Normally, I eat pretty healthy, but it seems like at Christmastime, healthy eating takes a backseat to Christmas cookies and Lattes! With all of that behind us now, it is time to get back on track! I thought it would be fun to cook my way through a cookbook. Last year, for…

Winter Garden Aglow In Boise, Idaho
“Christmas is a togethery sort of holiday” – Winnie the Pooh One of my favorite togethery things to do at Christmas, is to drive around and look at all of the Christmas lights. This year, I got to experience the Winter Garden Aglow in downtown Boise! What an incredible display of lights! Situated on over 50 acres in downtown Boise, the Winter Garden Aglow is on display at the Idaho Botanical Garden (IBG). The IBG is actually located on what used to be the farm and nursery land for the Old Idaho State Penitentiary. In 1973, the penitentiary closed, and this land was unoccupied for more than 10 years. …

Festive Fruitcake
It is that time of year! The weeks and days leading up to Christmas are one of my favorite times of the year. For as long as I can remember, I have always baked goodies to share with family and friends. As a little girl, I would spend hours in the kitchen with my mother and grandmother, and they would always let me bake my own batch of cookies – all by myself! I would then wrap the cookies up, and give them to my mom and grandma, like they had no idea what they were getting! 🙂 As years went by, and I grew older, I continued to bake…

Holiday Season Is Here In St. Claire, Michigan!
It’s official! The holiday season has begun, here in St. Claire, Michigan! If you were here in downtown St. Claire last night, you couldn’t help but feel festive! All around, the shops, streets and boardwalk, were decorated and lit up in celebration of the beginning of the holiday season. Christmas music streamed from the speakers along the river, while people sang along to “Santa Clause Is Coming To Town” and “Jingle Bells”, among other songs. Fires were lit in the fire pits in the City Square, as people stood around them, hot drinks in hand, trying to ward off the frosty chill of the air. Parking lots were packed,…

A Fall Day In Lexington, Michigan
With Halloween over, and our first snow flurries last night, I feel like I am quickly running out of time to get some Fall pics up! Michigan is absolutely beautiful in the Fall, and it was a perfect day to just get out and go for a drive. Our drive took us to the little town (it is actually a village) of Lexington, located on the shore of Lake Huron, just north of where the lake channels into the St. Clair River. It wasn’t a destination we had intentionally set out for, it is just where we ended up. In fact, prior to ending up there, I had never heard…

Spiced Apple Cake
Fall is not only full of color, it is full of flavor! Some of my favorite things about this time of year, are all of the yummy things we get to bake and cook. After visiting the apple orchard and coming home with a couple of bags of apples, the next step was to figure out what to make with those apples. Of course, I made a couple of batches of applesauce, because applesauce is best when it is homemade – especially when you leave chunks of apple in it 🙂 We also ate a lot of apples, just sliced and dipped in caramel – but you can only eat…
